They were so inspired by the handroll bars they experienced in Japan that they couldn't help but dream of bringing that same unique culinary experience to Austin. Chef Kim and Chef Im joined forces because they were so passionate about their dream. We used to frequent Yuki pretty often when they first opened and the head chef/owner worked there, including when they opened their second location. Hadn't been in awhile and was looking forward to visiting again. The quality of the food has seem to gone down. Still an abundant of fish and large pieces, but they are not well put together and easily fall apart. I used to think their fried shrimp head (that came along with ordering sweet shrimp) was one of the best , but was greatly disappointed this time. The batter seemingly changed and now has a chewy texture (likely from using Tapioca flour).

I ordered the spectacular wagyu nigiri, the scallop hand roll, and the shrimp katsu. Everything was delicious, and the rice seemed to be prepared with something that gave it a delicious green touch.

READ THIS:

Me and my girlfriend visited Yuki Handroll Bar on August 17 at 6 pm for her birthday dinner. Servers were professional—this feedback is solely about the kitchen crew. We noticed repeated eye rolls towards us, smiles that disappeared as staff turned away, and an abrupt hand-roll gesture. The kitchen crew is extremely unprofessional and the seating proximity made private conversation difficult. We still tipped well to protect the server’s effort.

This is about awareness and unfortunately, this was our worst dining experience ever. We’ll never come back due to the unprofessional kitchen crew.

I hope management (Jun Kim, Hyo Lim, John Kim, and Ben Yoo) take accountability and address the hospitality culture at the counter.

A hidden gem. The first hand roll place I know of in Austin and a welcome addition to Westlake. The quality of the fish is excellent. The nigiri is perfect and the hand rolls are out of this world. We’ll be back!

MUST VIST - I came for lunch and I was sooo impressed. I can’t wait to come back to try to more. I had the Tuna hand roll, avocado handroll, and Salmon Belly handroll. The fish so fresh, friendly service, relaxing atmosphere, and overall 5/5 experience. Great breath of fresh air from normal downtown Austin as well. Congrats to the YUKI team and can’t wait to visit again.

We LOVED Yuki! Everything about Yuki was perfect. The fish was super fresh. The rice was warm. Even the ginger and wasabi were high quality. We’ve been waiting for a handroll bar to open in Austin and Yuki exceeded all of our expectation. We also tried some of the individual nigiri which was delicious and a work of art!

YUKI was a great stop for sushi. The bar top setup with the chef in the center was a nice experience.

All of the food was extremely fresh and delicious. The rice was incredible and really made every piece of sushi great. They used fresh veggies and fish while also making each piece to order so it was never out on the countertop long.

The co-owner is very invested in his business and asked for feedback after the meal. He and the staff were all polite and very attentive.

I will definitely be back and will recommend everyone give YUKI a chance if you are in the mood for sushi.
