⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I wish I could give more than five stars!
My wife, Laura, and I visited Perla’s on South Congress for Father’s Day. I’ve been meaning to write this review ever since because the experience was simply too special not to share.
The food at Perla’s has always been excellent, and this visit was no different. The atmosphere, the service, and the overall dining experience were everything we’ve come to expect. But this Father’s Day, something happened that reminded me what true hospitality really looks like.
I ordered a dish that our server described very well. When it arrived, I realized it was an extremely healthy dish. It was prepared beautifully and tasted good—it just wasn’t what I was hoping for on Father’s Day. I wanted to treat myself a little and enjoy something a bit more indulgent.
Before I could even figure out what to do, Rachel, the manager, walked by and asked, “Sir, is everything okay?” I hesitated and said yes. She smiled and gently asked again, “No, really… is everything okay?”
I admitted that I just wasn’t feeling the dish. Without the slightest hesitation, Rachel said, “No problem at all. Would you like something different?” Then she said something that immediately let me know she truly understood her guests: “That’s a great dish, but it is a very healthy dish, and it may not be exactly what you’re looking for today.”
She was absolutely right.
What impressed me wasn’t simply that she offered to replace my meal. It was the way she made me feel. She treated me with genuine kindness, respect, and care. She made me feel valued—not like just another customer, but like a guest she truly wanted to have a wonderful experience. That kind of hospitality can’t be taught; it comes from the heart.
Rachel represents everything a great manager should be. She doesn’t just meet the standard—she is the standard. If I owned this restaurant, I would be doing everything I could to develop and promote someone with her leadership, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and servant’s heart. She represents Perla’s with excellence.
We’ll absolutely be back—not only because the food is outstanding, but because people like Rachel make Perla’s a place that feels genuinely welcoming.
Thank you, Rachel, for making our Father’s Day so memorable. Your kindness did not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful.
With sincere appreciation,
MJ & Laura
