What makes it fun

The George Washington Carver Museum is home to art galleries, classroom, conference room, dance studio, darkroom, archive storage and a large theater. Exhibits display African American history, an Artists Gallery and a children’s feature on African American inventors and scientists. This museum is an incredible display of the rich history of the African American community in the heart of Austin.

Very informative museum that captures some historical moments and stories well. It also has an exhibit discussing an abnormally large unexplained black population when the European explorers made their way here from the east Coast that I recommend everyone checks out. It raises questions about possible black tribes living here before Africans were trafficked here.

This was a great place to visit. They have so much history in this museum. The cool thing is it is local and national African American history. If you visit Austin this is a spot where you should definitely visit!

I saw the Who draws the maps exhibit and absolutely fell in love with the work. The staff were beyond helpful and just had amazing energy. This is a staple for the community and everyone should visit to learn more about Black history here in Austin.

This museum is definitely worth a visit. Plus, it's free and small, so you can get through everything fairly quickly. I especially enjoyed the exhibit about Juneteenth. I had hoped to see an exhibit about the building's namesake, but there wasn't one unfortunately. There is a kids' room where they can pretend to be scientists where he is mentioned.

The staff was amazing and the museum is very well kept. We reserved a room for a local meet up and they were very accommodating and the space had everything we needed

This bar is a dope gem in Austin! Definitely a place for intimate conversation and amazing Mezcal!! I had a Mezcal flight and it was easily the best decision I made. Ian is very knowledgeable and will guide you through your journey based on whatever your price point is! The aesthetic alone is truly amazing!!! You will not regret a trip to this bar!!

Beautifully curated exhibits. The Peace to the Queen exhibit was nicely done. Nice open space and creative touches, decorating each room in a unique way.

Excellent info and exhibits. We learned so much! I'd definitely come back again! Many African American firsts were highlighted... First military pilot, first firefighter, families that settled in the area, even a symposium on gentrification!
