Outstanding meseum and obviuosly great for kids. Doesnt break the bank and its very nice. Doesnt break the bank and has a ton of great photo opppurtunities. The exhibits are engaging and fun. Would highly recommend. Tons of parking directly underneath the building too.

I just finished visiting the Bullock Texas State History Museum, and my overall experience was great. The exhibits are well organized, informative, and really bring Texas history to life. The museum is clean, welcoming, and easy to navigate, making it enjoyable for visitors of all ages. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the variety of displays. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Austin or interested in learning more about Texas history.

The museum is beautiful with a very rich presentation of Texas history. I truly enjoyed the experience and found myself deeply intrigued by the complexity of the state’s past. The exhibits highlighting Texas under Mexican rule, the revolution, land certificates, and the formation of the Republic of Texas were especially fascinating. You really get a sense of how law, governance, and political interests shaped the path of the state. That said, the visit also prompted some critical reflection. History is not just about what is displayed, but also what is absent. During my visit, another guest mentioned that a prior exhibit featuring Black culture from that historical period had been present in 2024 but was no longer there. I cannot independently confirm this, but it certainly sparked important thoughts about how historical narratives are curated and evolve over time especially in light of the current political climate. As a PhD student in public administration and policy, I view spaces like this as starting points for deeper inquiry rather than definitive accounts. Despite any perceived gaps, the museum offers an engaging and visually impressive exploration of Texas history that is well worth visiting. I left with plenty to think about and even more to research on my own.

We had such a wonderful experience at the Texas history museum! We visited during the free admission day with our Bank of America cards (they offer it once a month), and I also love that H-E-B sponsors free admission for everyone on the first Sunday of each month — such a great opportunity for families. The museum itself is fantastic. The exhibits are engaging and beautifully presented. We especially loved the dinosaur exhibition — it’s impressive and exciting for both kids and adults. The building is spacious, well organized, and very comfortable to explore. We’re already planning to come back to watch a movie in the theater! Highly recommend visiting — whether you live in Texas or are just visiting Austin.

It was a very pretty museum but not particularly interesting. The T.Rex exhibit was decent but the rest of the museum was ok. My favorite exhibit was the Buc ees statue and there was even a brick from the first buc ees store. A truly rare and fascinating artifact of texas history 😉 The higher you go up on the floors the more interesting the exhibits start to look. Overall I would highly encourage you to come on HEB free Sundays. I personally would not pay full price for this museum again.

The shark exhibit was well done and really cool and the section where you can listen and watch clips from ACL live is also cool. I think the downfall of this museum is it highlights everything “great” about Texas and doesn’t really acknowledge or represent the uncomfortable history of Texas. One half of a wall out of the 3 story museum “highlights” Gay rights, women’s rights, equality protest for African Americans all in one tiny section. It kind of feels like we’re gonna put up one or two signs about this to say we did it but we’re not gonna go into detail about anything. I think they could do better to tell everyone’s stories (including indigenous communities / minority communities) and not just that of white Americans. Because they aren’t the only people that have built this state let alone this country.

A great hands-on experience of Texas history! Lots of great displays and video, as well as interactive video games. The first time I attended was with a group of 80 or so students, which was probably too many for the space. This time I went with a group that was small enough we could read and discuss the information in the various exhibits. It was cool to see so many of the things we had read and studied about

Lots of interesting exhibitions, well organized, really inspiring of Texas history and cowboys. I really enjoyed the short films of Texas history, such a beautiful and well made firm, the rattlesnake story was funny and the surprise part got me jump out of the chair! Amazing 3D technique and projector. love the storyline.

Great place to get out of the heat. Some dated items, it's it's museum! Great gift shop with a very nice staff. The museum itself is laid out very nicely start at the top or start at the bottom. Loads of fun for the kids as well as adults. Parking is available nearby and an easy walk. The first Sunday of every month the museum is free for all!

Texan view for their own history. Much focused on the Republic. Very good introductory and educational exhibition about Texas history. IMAX, just a few commercial films. Prices for movies are reasonable. Souvenir shop is also interesting. Will I come again? Do I recommend for a membership? If you are living here at least for years and need to buy Texas and Austin souvenirs a lot, Membership is a good choice I guess.

I really enjoyed my experience here. I wasn't expecting the remains of a ship to be housed here. There are plenty of places in the exhibit to sit down which is important when you have a disability. There are also elevators and ramps. I especially enjoyed the exhibits about the indigenous peoples. I only wish there was more about ancient indigenous culture. There's a section on how Texas became independent, civil rights, and Texas industries.
