Not only is the sushi excellent, but it is accessible. I feel Austin is being separated into a city with either mediocre sushi that is readily available, or high end omakase with difficult to get reservations at extremely high prices. If you like sushi and just want to eat great sushi all the time, this is the place for it.
If you're not a sushi eater, I love their bento boxes during lunch. They also have a variety of other foods in case you are dining with a less adventurous friend or family member.
If sushi is in your culture, Tatsumi is for you - clean, classic and impeccably executed.

The sushi rolls are great, but all times of the ~5 time I have ordered, the ginger they give on the side smells and tastes moldy. It makes everything in the tray smell off. Please fix this! No ginger is better
Also- please stop giving me spicy tuna rolls when I ordered tuna tacos. You’ve made this mistake 2x in a row

Chef Elvin Jin has created perhaps the best sushi I have ever had at Tatsumi. Not only is the service and attention to detail exceptional but the food is absolutely outstanding. Highest quality fish and unique flavors. Try the chile hamachi, Gary’s roll and go for the Omakase. You won’t regret it.

Tatsumi deserves all the recognition, and more. Chef Elvin is so hospitable, as is his team. The food was incredible! We had some seasonal specials that were top notch, and he had an amazing selection of fish. Everything from your classic standbys like otoro, hotate, and hirame, but also kamasu, nodoguro, and yukimasu. Nigiri and sashimi were top tier, start to finish. The shrimp tempura handroll was also amazing, the batter was light and not oily at all, exactly how it should be. Service was also great, with our server Logan and sushi chef Fidel taking great care of us. The sake selection is also very solid, with some real gems at great price points. Please go give this restaurant some love, they do an incredible job!

Staff is always kind and knowledgeable and the sushi is always fresh and delicious. Big thanks to Vin who helped us out on our last visit. He selected some really wonderful pieces for us to enjoy.

You have to checkout Tatsumi, it is spectacular! Lowkey setting with amazing food and super fresh fish. Can’t recommend them enough!

The fish was incredibly fresh, and every dish was prepared with precision and care. The atmosphere was inviting, and the service was attentive. Highly recommend for anyone looking for top-quality sushi!

Uni was not fresh. It was very bitter. The quality of the sashimi did not worth your money. If you’ve ever tried good sushi from NYC or LA area, you would be very disappointed at this place. I am not saying this place needs to be better than other sushi places from big cities, but with the money you are paying, you deserve something better than this.

Having tried so many Japanese restaurants in Austin and everywhere else, Tatsumi has definitely earned its top place in my heart. The food, being the most important factor of a restaurant, is always very fresh and presented beautifully to the customers. Every bite is satisfying and pure enjoyment and every dish on the menu is thoughtfully crafted. You have so many options to choose from, or you can leave it up to the chef to surprise you with something you’ve never tried before, it’s all about the fun experience. Over the past years, Tatsumi has definitely kept its bar consistently high with great food and service, and some creativity in their menu, it’s definitely a hidden gem that will not disappoint you.

These folks are near and dear to my heart. If you want a personable, knowledgeable and innovative experience with sushi, come here and trust the chefs. They regularly rotate their selection and are constantly dreaming up wonderful flavour profiles and combinations to introduce to customers. A lot of sushi places in Austin tend to play it safe and serve the same things. Which is fine, but if you live in the delight of trying new things, it's limiting. Tatsumi pushes the envelope every week and will respond enthusiastically if you have ideas or profiles in mind. They're the only place I've been that are genuinely excited if you tell them you want them to guide your lunch or dinner. Their passion for their craft is unmatched.

Seldom took photos for foods, came back to this part after already took a couple of bites! The materials been used here are amazingly fresh, soups and all of the sauces perfectly match the dishes we ordered. Tempura is impressive, crisp but not overly cooked, shrimp inside is juicy like still in the water lol. Has become my favorite sushi place in the town.
