Had an extremely rude waiter, Brad. Bald gentleman with a goatee and earring. Brad randomly snapped on my partner and I when inquiring about their draft list. Was a very bizarre exchange where the waiter seemed to have snapped and made a very off color comment making a total 180 of our experience here.

Absolutely fantastic experience, but Ian truly made the night. I had the pork chop and the sea bass, and both were absolutely delicious. Everything was beautifully presented, cooked perfectly, and lived up to what I expected from a restaurant like this. The atmosphere is also gorgeous—dark, intimate, and upscale without feeling overly stuffy once you settle in. But the biggest shoutout has to go to Ian, our bartender. He was AMAZING. Genuinely one of those people who can completely make a dining experience. He was attentive, personable, welcoming, and made us feel taken care of the entire time. The food was great, but I can genuinely say that even if the food had been bad, I would come back just for Ian and the level of service he provided. That’s how much of an impression he made. I also have to give the restaurant credit for how they handled the dress code. I wasn’t prepared for how upscale it was and definitely felt a little out of place when I first arrived because I wasn’t dressed quite appropriately for the setting. Instead of making me feel embarrassed or unwelcome, they provided me with a jacket to wear. I really appreciated that. It allowed me to enjoy the evening without the situation being made uncomfortable. Overall, the food was fantastic, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the hospitality was excellent. The pork chop and sea bass were both great choices, but Ian was hands down the highlight of the experience. Seriously, give Ian a raise. 😂 I would absolutely come back, and I’d specifically want to sit at his bar again. Next time, I’ll just know to dress for the occasion!

Great experience. Food was terrific and the staff were great. We celebrated a special occasion and they went out of their way to make it better. Cannot recommend higher.

Enjoyed a birthday meal at J Carver and it was phenomenal! The food was lovely (we had a large collection of steak, fish and other seafood). We were also lucky enough to try the tuna steak before it was taken off the menu. Our server, Beau(?) was very kind and attentive (even with a broken arm😭). Our menus for the night were even customized with my name - loved this detail especially. Many thanks to everyone at J Carver for a special day and memorable birthday! We'll definitely be back 🫶🏿

Everything was perfect and it should be. Our group was 7 people and our bill included the tip. The total came to $1200. We did drink quite a bit. The drinks were flowing. I had the homemade beef stuffed ravioli. The kitchen grinds its own beef and makes everything from scratch.

Sweet spot for an intimate but bustling dinner. Feels like a city steakhouse in Chicago. Ryan (our server) was incredible, he gave the best suggestions. Steak rub was a tad bit salty but overall a really lovely dinner. We’ll be back!

Really amazing time. Cant recommend ordering a shared steak if you like medium rare throughout, half of our steak was blue. Service and atmosphere was top notch.

Love the atmosphere! I came here the first time and had a brisket ravioli I believe that was amazing! When I came back the second time many months later I had the same dish and it wasn’t as great. I am not sure if they changed the recipe, but I think they put a cream with horseradish instead of a sour cream or something that looks good but made me feel like I was having a sandwich instead of a gourmet dish. Service, had better the first time at the table. Second time we sat at the bar and I honestly didn’t appreciate the comments and looks the brunette female bartender gave me. The African American Bartender was a sweetheart. I don’t remember the names.

What a nice upscale gem in downtown Austin! The feel of the restaurant is like a speakeasy and the service is excellent. We were greeted with a couple of complimentary glasses of champagne and had a nice view of the entire restaurant sitting bar top. Everything we ordered was really good, including the bone marrow appetizer, filet, and corn brûlée side! The corn side was very unique and tasty - never had corn served that way. I would definitely order it again!

5 star dining experience at J.Carver for a business dinner was nothing short of phenomenal. Ian, our food and mixologist extraordinaire delivered a memorable evening and we will be coming back again and again. Thank you for making a dinner date one for the record books of best meals we’ve ever had complete with chemistry cocktails, bone marrow, steak and lobster and caviar. Go to J.Carver and you’ll truly fall of your seat in culinary wonder and awe!

Made my first visit to J. Carver’s and found a new favorite dinner spot in Austin! Every dish and drink was brilliant - would recommend everything we ordered below. Garlic bread, Halibut Crudo, Steak Tartare, and the Sole. The Sole is one of the best fish dishes I have ever enjoyed! I will be back to try a steak next time. Photos: @zacheats512 on Instagram
