What makes it fun

At ATX Cocina, we believe in experimenting with the boundaries of Mexican cuisine. We take traditional Mexican dishes and elevate them with modern approaches and techniques. Corn, the basis of Mexican cuisine for thousands of years, is also the foundation of our kitchen. We nixtamlize and process our masa in-house, sourcing it from heirloom varieties of corn grown by small family farms in Mexico. We are a 100% gluten-free restaurant.

Came in to cool off and have a drink with my family. The bartender started the service, i could tell he was a bit busy but he was knowledgeable about his drinks. I asked about how the guac was made because i like there to be a certain ingredient, theirs was lacking(no biggie). I later then get up to ask for a straw from said bartender because my son wanted one for his drink and let me clarify that we weren't sitting at the bar top bc of tabc regulations that dont allow underage children to sit there. Once i had asked for the straw the service switched from bartender to bar back which i personally had no issue with it. However since it seemed neither bar nor barback were comfortable serving us with mineral waters. I told her to bring limes, the bottle of mineral water, and the check since we no longer had intention to stay at this odd establishment. When barback brings us the next round i ask of her to not serve because i was going to serve my family our drinks. Not to be rude or nothing bc she was kind enough to put straws in all our drinks for the second round but me and my father dont use straws to protect the environment but i did notice that this establishment carries the kind of eco friendly straws that are biodegradable so i do comend the establishment for at least carring for the environment. When she was clearing up dishes that we were not using because we decided to not eat anything here she was clearing the table and i kept asking her to leave my plate since i had extra limes to squeeze in my drink i was going to use this plate to put the extra lime wedges. She did not hear me saying to please leave the plate over and over. She looked at me and asked me if i was okay and i responded absolutely are you and she goes on about saying how she as just doing her job and she cant read my mind. I never asked her to read my mind but that was thoughtful of her. Once this happened service changed back to bartender where he gives is the check and says thank you. I ask him who the manager was and instead of giving me a name ge started describing her. I had already seen her around the restaurant i was simply asking what her name was. Once i asked this the energy shifted so unremarkablebly fast i saw her and her kitchen manager come out and stand by a pos system right by the bar. I flag her down to let her know i lf i needed to apologize to the poor bar back who had a very odd way of asking me if my drink was to my liking the manager gets in defense mode and accuses me of cursing at her employees. Now this is a diabolical assumption that i would take service so personal i had to curse at one of her employees. But i understand why mod on duty acts like this. If your latino i would stay 7 miles away from this establishment. It was beautiful music was a whole vibe but one can tell when the culture is being used for the profit in a more elevated area of downtown. But i guess when your actually from atx born and raised and actually saw the downtown boom you get treated oddly. Keep austin weird tho. Real pretty and delicious mineral water and it's sourced in mexico. Also for those cursing allegations mod id be nice if you run back your cameras and head the convo for my peace of mind because like i said my intention was never to offend that poor bar back. Ps to the message not suitable for people who have large (actual) service dogs the space inside is sat too narrow to the other neighbooring tables. Friendly reminder to THE city of ATX not all disabilities look the same and not everyone takes their service animal to be kind to both their dog and the environment the handler will be in.

We visited ATX so many times last year, and it quickly became one of our favorite places to eat in Austin. The food is consistently excellent, with bold, well-balanced flavors that make every dish exciting. We especially love the shareable concept. Ordering several dishes for the table and getting to try a little bit of everything makes the experience so much more enjoyable. It’s the kind of place where you keep discovering new favorites, and the flavors are what make us want to come back again and again. The drinks are fantastic, too, and the service has always been wonderful. The team is friendly, attentive, and makes every visit feel welcoming. The atmosphere is lively and can get quite loud, so it’s a great spot for a fun evening with friends. Sunday Brunch is awesome!

Amazing experience at ATX Cocina! The drinks were great, and the steak with corn was absolutely delicious full of flavor and cooked perfectly. 🥩🌽 The service was a 10/10! Our server gave us great recommendations and was attentive throughout the entire meal. The atmosphere was also really good, with a great crowd and a nice vibe in a beautiful area of Austin. Definitely a place I would recommend, and I’ll 100% be back the next time I’m in Austin! 🌮🍹

Best meal in austin. We decided to let our waiter order for us and it was the BEST decision. Everything was cooked perfectly and it was so affordable considering we fed 9 people.

A true standard of excellence. The atmosphere is classy but not pretentious. The service is always attentive and thoughtful. The food is superb and the happy hour has a few nice options.

Vibrant ambiance, attentive staff and always something new and innovative on the menu. We have food allergies and the staff are truly outstanding in ensuring our safety. We plan many returns!!

The food and service here is beyond great. Have had so many wonderful waiters and every dish is delicious so far. Highly recommend the sopes, arroz verde, camotes, Caesar salad, and machete.

It's one of the best upscale Mexican restaurants in Austin. ATX Cocina is a MUST if you are in town! I had an incredible experience, and I can't wait to go back when I am in town. I've noticed the tables are a perfect for large groups' dining experience. So it would be a perfect place to celebrate birthdays with friends or just have a big family dinner. Great service and ambience, not to mention the cool open kitchen. All the dishes that we ordered were very flavourful and perfectly balanced, not to mention beautifully presented. I loved their vegetarian and gluten-free options! The drinks were amazing as well, especially my margaritas!! Highly recommend making reservations. This place is always crowded, yes even on weekdays! but if you are just passing by Austin or forgot to make a reservation, the wait is WORTH it!

Fabulous place for a top notch dinner. Start of with the fresh made guacamole, it won't disappoint. The fish tacos were phenomenal. High light was the Roasted Beef Shortrib for 2 sitting in a bed of pickled carrots. Wonderful seasoned meat made wonderfully flavored tacos. Can't wait to return and try more!

Great first experience here! Had a party of 3 women and the family-style guacamole, appetizer chicken wings, Short rib and salmon was more than enough to fill us up! We sat on the patio, which we thought would have a view but the tent hid the view of the lake unfortunately. But our waiter was attentive and service was efficient. Looking forward to coming back some day!
