    What makes it fun

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park features 15 miles of hiking trails along the creek with many different spots along the way to swim, multiple softball fields, a swimming pool, a covered playground, and numerous barbecue pits and picnic tables. The trails along the park are popular swimming areas during the summer and the walking trails are well trafficked all year round.

Wanted to do an easy hike late evening last week, and my son suggested this place. The scenery is beautiful and doesn't involve too much undulation on the many trail choices. There's a park nearby for the little ones and the main creek itself, is great if you have dogs with you on your walk (which we saw quiet a few). The trails we walked also had a lot of mountain bikers on them, but it was all very courteous as they called out ahead of time, so walks would know they were coming through.Overall, it's a beautiful place to walk, parking was easy and it's a lively place to visit. We'll be going back.

Off leash trails make for lots of happy dogs. Good dog swimming spots after rain. The trails are shared with many mountain bikes.

I have been coming to Walnut Creek for about 25 years now. It's a great place to learn how to ride on a mountain bike. If you're into bmx or dirt jumping the bmx pump track is your spot. With over 13mi of mount bike trails this place is great for riders of all skill. You definitely want to come at the less busier times since there are off leash dogs. Beware of hikers with their ear buds in not paying attention. I'd recommend to come in a Sunday morning and join in on one of the Austin ridge riders group ride to get a feel for the layout and find a flow of the trails.

So many great trails and things to do. Spanning from beginner to intermediate, there is a good range of difficulty for Austin. Beautiful surroundings. Just be careful in the unleashed part, some dogs are more trained than other. And watch out for filled poop bags left on the trails.

This is a great park. My gf and I take our dog here and I think it used to be off leash but don’t think it is anymore. There’s def still some spots where you can let your dog off though. I want to come back for mountain biking. Looks like they’ve got tons of trails. Huge park and fun to explore. Also nice paved path through the middle with some cool bridges. Go check it out if you’re in the area.

My kids and I loved stopping here after visiting The Thinkery. They were delighted by Nessie and love the playground equipment, although some of it was in need of repair. The walking path and lake were beautiful. My kids had fun watching the ducks and seeing the signs of springtime in Austin. We will definitely be back next time we're in town.
