In 1986, the Capitol building was named a National Historic Landmark and currently hosts the government of the American State of Texas.

It's a beautiful place; even the elevator has a wooden design. Security checks are required to enter. The architecture is both historical and aesthetically pleasing. There are shops nearby where you can buy souvenirs.

Walking around the capital is really fun if you want to explore. We didn't have a tour guide or anything but it was really interesting to see it in person. There's shops right down the road too if you wanted to make a day out of it like we did.

This capitol is among the most beautiful I've ever seen! Although they provide free tours, I couldn't participate due to a time constraint.

Beautiful historical building. The Renaissance-style architecture of the Texas State Capitol reveals how diverse the State of Texas has always been, with unique food, cultures, and people! I went with my family on a Saturday evening, yet the Capitol was as calm as ever. The Capitol grounds are a splendid picnic spot, dotted with fountains and sculptures of Texas revolutionaries. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Austin!

Very nice visit at the Texas Capitol. I arrived just in time for the start of a (free) guided tour inside the building. The guide was very competent as he explained the history of the Capitol (and, consequently, of Texas itself). We were able to enter the Senate and, after the guided tour, to roam around freely to see every detail that we might have missed. I recommend the visit if you are in Austin!

Just Amazing.
If you want to know about Texas History or just want to take in everything Texan, this is the right spot for you. It’s the embodiment of everything Texan. Right from the entrance to the Gift shop, everything is so beautifully designed.
The staff and government officials are amazing and courteous to answer all the questions I had. They even let you go into the state house and senate which is great!
