If you are a fan of history and large mansions the Texas Governor’s Mansion is a must see destination. Currently a home to the Texas Governor in office as of 2021 is Governor Gregg Abbott. The mansion was built in 1854 and has been the home to every TX governor since 1856. The architecture of the mansion was designed by Abner Cook and it truly is a magnificent site to see.

This is an amazing historical home. Yes there have been renovations and updates that are meant for sustainability, but it really is a beautiful place. It requires a week in advance for security reasons. A family actually lives there and if it were you I'm sure you would want to know who's showing up on your door step. Stephen F. Austin's desk is in it. It blows my mind.

It was cool. Our guide was good, but a short tour overall. Glad I went.

You have to make reservations over the phone at least one week ahead. Thet do not have tours every day. They will send you an email with instructions. You have to be punctual as the tour only lasts around 20 minutes. Very nice tour with friendly staff. They will let you in most of the rooms on the first floor but the second floor is off limits. Best of all, it's free.
