    What makes it fun

Micklethwait Craft Meats, founded in 2012 by pitmaster Tom Micklethwait (the "th" is silent), serves oak-fired Central Texas barbecue from a vintage Comet trailer in the heart of East Austin. Micklethwait takes pride in serving high-quality smoked meats, inventive sausages, scratch-made sides, and fresh baked goods. Micklethwait Craft Meats serves brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, sausage, pulled pork, smoked turkey, barbacoa, and other meats, as well as scratch-made sides such as jalapeo cheese grits and lemon poppy slaw and a rotating selection of house-made desserts. Good people. Nice times.

Awesome and affordable BBQ without an hour wait! Brisket is bomb and the ribs were great too. Sides are super good, grits, Mac, and beet salad are a must. The smoked mushrooms taco is an fantastic option for the non meat eaters too.

First taste of TX BBQ. Brisket was great, sausage was seasoned well and tasty, but a tiny bit dry. Sauce was good! The 2 meat plate is a ton of food and really well priced. 9/10, would eat again.

Was recommended to me and it didn’t disappoint. Had the brisket, sausage, and the mac and cheese and it all was good!

Best BBQ of our trip to Austin. Had Micklethwait recommended to us from several people. Arrived at noon to a line that took about 20 min. Even before we got our food, the lady taking our order was the one of the nicest staff we met on our trip.Food was amazing, for mains we had the brisket, pork ribs and pulled lamb. They were each so good that I can't even rank them. For sides we had the beet salad, mac and cheese and beans. Again, they were all so good that I can't even judge which was best. Two meat plates (with two sides) were $17. Meat was also sold by the pound (I heard there may be some sort of family deal that isn't listed, so ask them if you are there with a big family (5) ).There is another building on site that you can buy drinks at. They had sweet tea and also a hibiscus mint tea (free refills offered). We will definitely be back when in town and can highly recommend this place.

Long wait in line but the food was awesome. That beef rib is like nothing you've ever seen before. The jalapeno cheddar grits are really good as well.I think the barbecue is much better than Franklin's. And I dig sitting outside

I came here to visit for a couple of days and I had to go here twice! The woman who took the orders was extremely kind and patient. I really like their outdoor seating and the ambience they have created. The brisket was to die for! I also really loved the jalapeño cheddar grits. We also tried the pulled lamb, and that was definitely something unique to some of the other barbecue places we went to. I brought some brisket home to San Francisco and it was equally delicious as eating it fresh! If you don’t want to wait in the long lines this is DEFINITELY worth a try!
