We are so surprised to see good reviews for this place. We went for a birthday dinner. Our server was inattentive, one of the meals arrived 10 minutes after all of the others. It is expensive and really just not good food. Oh, and did I mention, it is pretty expensive.The cheese appetizer is particularly bad-goopy and hard to eat.Two in our party ordered the filet - prime. And two ordered non-prime. The prime was good, but again really expensive. The non-prime was like an airplane dinner- an Incredibly small, thin cut of meat. We could not believe they would serve such a little piece of meat.Desserts were Marie Calendar like.Disappointing all around.

I'm very picky with my steak, and J5s filet (med-rare or rare) is one of the best steaks I've had in the Austin metro area.BTW, if you normally order any more than med-rare, save yourself time and money and go to a chain because you won't truly appreciate the quality. Or, consider going out of your comfort zone and eat a filet the way it was meant to be served.

Took my friend here for bday dinner, and it was phenomenal! The owner, J5, brought us our drinks and took the time to speak with us and get to know us and share his family with us.Their grapefruit mocktail was DELICIOUS!! We ordered the firecracker shrimp appetizer, and it was more than enough to share for 2 people. There were at least 14 pieces of shrimp, maybe more. The flavor was excellent, just a little kick of heat but not enough to set your mouth on fire. Then we both ordered the potato soup. All I can say is 🤤🤤🤤. Perfectly creamy, salty, cheesy! I ordered the salmon and asparagus with the lump crab topper, and it was perfectly cooked. Not too buttery, just enough. The asparagus was fire!! My friend ordered cheeseburger and fries and was equally pleased.We loved the indoor/outdoor dining experience. We sat at an indoor table but got the benefit of the outdoor ambiance.We left the restaurant talking about how we couldn't wait to go back! It was worth the drive (I came from Lago Vista, and my friend lives in Lakeway). 10/10 recommend.

OH!!! MY!!! LITTLE BABY JESUS (and I am fully aware He was a grown man BUT THIS IS MY REVIEW AND I MAKE ALL THE MONEY)!!!! This place had THE BEST SIRLOIN STEAKS IN THE UNIVERSE and I have been all over so I know a thing or two or three about Universal Steaks........?......(I 've been in Texas too long)........JUST GO TO J5 Steakhouse TODAY!!!

Came here on Aug 9th right at 5p when they opened.I wish I would have remembered to take pictures before devouring some of the food.The firecracker shimp was AMAZING! We couldn't get enough of it. Also had the ahi tuna appetizer that was quite tasty.3 of us had delicious steaks - 2 of them were cooked to perfection, one was slightly over, but not by enough to need to send back. The fourth person had fish - he said it was great!The desserts were okay/average - but probably more of a preference thing than anything.Our waitress, Jaiden (one of the 5 J's), was lovely and attentive.Definitely will come back here if I'm in the area.

Top shelf! We were told by so many people to dine here. Being foodies and steak enthusiasts we have had our share of "hyped up" fairy tales about steaks that are must haves and very few live up to the hype. HOWEVER, J5 is not a fairy tale. From the outside it looks like a middle of the road steakhouse but inside is another story. Fast, friendly service. Everybody's family atmosphere. And of course our food was wonderful and fairly priced. The steak DID in fact live up to the hype. Well prepared, properly seasoned and melted in my mouth. Barely needed a knife. Job well done J5!!!

First time visiting here and it was great. Loved the patio area and the open space that the kids were able to run in while waiting for the food. Food was delicious. Service was great.

I’ve been a “local” patron for years. The food is great quality consistently and the service is always the best. The family owned part of it is what I believe family should be. This is my truly home away from home. Thanks guys!
