Hank’s is a neighborhood restaurant, bar and cafe located in our Windsor Park neighborhood of Austin. We have everything from comfort food to seafood. If you're looking for a chill spot that's spacious and features an unbeatable happy hour (did someone say frosé!?), Hank’s may be just what you need.
Environment: this restaurant is spacious and has a very earthy and bright environment. It feels fresh and clean. The space really gives you the comfort to move around without running into anyone’s table, and the background music isn’t too loud so you can hear your guests speak.
Service: The service was wonderful. Even with the wait, we were seated pretty quickly (in under ten minutes). Our server was wonderful! He was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed.
Food: I’m a little conflicted about the food. First, they were out of baked goods because those come from their cafe side and apparently they sell out quickly. Second, they didn’t have any meat-alternatives; it’s either pork or nothing.
My partner and I ended up ordering the avocado toast with an extra poached egg. The rye bread was too dry and hard to cut through with the knife. It was also hard to chew. While my partner asked for hard poached, I was expected soft poached eggs and they came out hard as well. So, I’m a bit disappointed with the food.
I would give this place another shot though. Overall the experience was nice and the food was still good. Just wasn’t impressed with the rye bread and the hard poached eggs.
I've been going to Hanks weekly for the last 3 years to get breakfast tacos and coffee. Over the last year the quality of the breakfast tacos have gotten extremely inconsistent. Sometimes they are WAY too salty, other times they give me the wrong tortilla type (corn instead of flour, ect.). They serve the tacos with a green tomatillo sauce, which is excellent when done right. Sometimes they make the sauce extremely thick, sometimes it's basically like water. I no longer know if I'm going to get a good taco.
Today I ordered a cappuccino and some tacos. The cappuccino was awful, almost tasted like drip coffee. The tomatillo sauce was so thin and watery that it just soaked the tortilla and ended up breaking the taco.
At this point I just have to accept that this place just isn't worth going to anymore, especially because I've been complained to by the employee in their drive-thru, completely unprompted, more than once about low pay.
