What makes it fun

The Broken Spoke is one of Texas' most definitive dance halls. It's not one of those trendy, here-today-gone-tomorrow spots you see springing up in some out-of-business lumber yard or feed store on every corner. Its reputation for great live country music and good Texas cooking is world renown! It is a favorite venue and hang-out for most of Austin's "real" country musicians.

Stopped in here for some proper Texas honky tonkin' and we weren't disappointed! Beer by the pitcher, dance floor packed and a great live band playing quality country and western - what more could you want? It's exactly what you want from a honky tonk, one of the best nights out I've ever had!

Always a great time out dancing at the Broken Spoke!!! Love the live band and the atmosphere is just plain fun!!! Very authentic!!!

An institution. So glad to have been able to visit Texas’ honky tonk capital. Grabbed a beer and whiskey at the bar, perused the memorabilia, and checked out the dance hall before the main event during my short stay in Austin.

This place is an experience and a must go to if you are in Austin.

The fact the establishment has been in business for the length of time is a success story in itself.

The food is great and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

Con: parking can be tight but you will figure it out or maybe get lucky and have a spot available in front.

Had a lot of fun at this place!
Went to see the incredible Dale Watson at Broken Spoke and it did not disappoint. The people were two-stepping away on the dance floor while the other clients were drinking cold beer and eating good food on the surrounding tables. The staff is lovely and the 'museum' section is fascinating. Highly recommend!

Amazing and authentic Texas line dance bar. Super friendly staff and tasty beef on the menu. I went alone and immediately became friends with two Austin guys. The music is a little too polished for me but lucky me - they play both: Country & western music.
